I have recently decided to work further with some of my previous ideas in creating a poster of sorts that was inspired by a character within a recent marketing image I saw for the Playstation 5 game Demon's Souls, which is a remake. Gaming and fantasy are some of my favorite topics to base my digital illustrations or graphic designs on. I decided to draw over this character but ended up creating it entirely my own and use my other designs as backdrop.
Here is the image I used as the inspiration for this piece.
I combined one aspect of it by redrawing one of the characters you see below on the lower left, but changing him completely to be my own. I started over From Software-designed character, but changed it half way to be completely different).
Here is me using this character within my own design and working form there:
I kept working on this design as you see the results below. I ended up putting it into Illustator and changing the ideas such as making it more abstract.
Here are some older versions before I added adjustment layers and sharpness to them. As you can see, they are more washed or blurry looking and have less saturation:
Here was the final version done on the iPad before I imported it into my Mac and ran Adobe Illustrator. I then used Illustrator to trace this version below and continued to work on it fixing the armour to make it look more like a steel plate or plated armour, which you see above.
However, some aspects of this version below I still like and I may continue working with it on the iPad. For instance, the small balls coming out of the armour or magic looks more natural and less plasticky due to it being bitmap and not vector. Again, it was done entirely on iPad with an Apple Pencil using both Artstudio Pro and Procreate.
The whole image revolves around me using previous assets I created across different designs. You may remember the crystals from this design, also within the theme of fantasy or gaming, as well as the two characters in the background.
Thus, the design started out as a digital illustration using a stylus and the final result of that you see above, but later was worked on within Illustrator thus becoming a graphic design.
