Created a Guide on Logo Creation & Gradient Recreations

On my personal site and blog, which is Wordpress-based I created a guide today and mentioned Artistic Counterculture. The guide includes gifs or videos I created using Licecap for Mac as well as screenshots of me using Adobe Illustrator in order to edit logos.

You can read the guide or article here. The focus is on getting rid of text on a logo to either have it completely gone or replaced with new and updated text. In my case I wanted text for a personal business card gone to showcase a pure logo without my personal information on it. However, I lost the original source vector file saved in .ai or .pdf and only had the raster files left. The vector files I have all contained my personal information.

So what I decided to do was use a fresh gradient on top of the already-present background gradient to blend the background in without the text or font showing. I started doing this and kept running into trouble with the gradient because when I used the eyedropper tool the whole rectangle fill would turn that color even when I had the gradient window open and one of the color dots selected where I wanted an eyedropper tool to replace the color.

I then realized I had to double click each color dot on the gradient line to edit the color using the eyedropper tool and select a dolor directly below the rectangle I added, which replaced the text. I show this in the guide using both gifs and images, as well as tips on using the gradient tool and saving swatches and organizing the canvas background.

I am thinking of creating a guides section in this site to graphic design and reposting the guide here in a way. Alternatively, I may just create a new blog post.

[Edit] Since publishing this news, I have added a blog post related to the best images from the guide.
